National Museums of Kenya

National Museums of Kenya
Nairobi, Kenya

Armband made of woven coloured (white, green and red) beads with different designs. The designs are said to be taken from shrek markings and the stripes from cicatrices on the arms. These marks are not confined to one clan but mostly used by the kamba group. The armband is made and worn above the elbow by older unmarried girls and women when taking part in tribal dances.
