In central Italy, as in much of
Europe, between the beginnning of the seventeenth century and the first decades
of the eighteenth century, many noble dwellings and their interiors underwent
renovation. Furniture was enriched with decorative elements that recalled
the architecture of palaces rich in painted decoration, stucco and temporary
structures. These new decorative themes
filtered down to local artists through circulating catalogues of engraving.
