Armet

Seusenhofer, Konrad

The Victoria and Albert Museum

The Victoria and Albert Museum
London, United Kingdom

The helmet is of four piece construction, with a fluted skull with roped comb, hinged cheek pieces with roped lower edges, and a bellows visor pivoted at the sides. A staple pierced with an eye attached to the right cheek piece is of uncertain function. The holes across the face of the helmet and the rivets at the bottom serve as a practical purpose but their arrangement makes pattern and thus also serves as the ornament of the piece.
