An armillary sphere is a model of the firmament, consisting of metal circles (armillae in Latin), with a small globe at the centre representing the Earth, according to the Ptolemaic system. These instruments were used to study and illustrate the movement of celestial bodies around the Earth. This armilla bears the signature of Manfredo Settala and the date 1646.
