This large collection includes paintings, sculptures, engravings, photographs, documents and ethnological pieces by Brazilian and foreign authors, produced between the 18th century and contemporary times. Founded in 2004 from the initiative of its curator, Emanoel Araujo, the museum quickly became a reference for national and international research focusing on historical, artistic and anthropological contents on Brazilian art and culture, especially in its African- Brazilian dimension.
