Arnold Schönberg playing ping-pong

While some of Arnold Schönberg’s parties in his Brentwood home centered on musical events, others were informal Sundayafternoon gatherings, salons, where relatives, friends, colleagues, and students dropped by, played ping-pong (a game Schönberg enjoyed playing), and were served Viennese coffee and pastry specialties. The language at these gatherings was typically a hybrid of German and English.
