Johann Moritz Rugendas (Augsburg, Germany, 1802 - Weilheim, Germany, 1858) was a painter, draftsman and engraver. Hired as an expedition draftsman and documentary maker
Baron de Langsdorff, arrived in Brazil in 1822 and took part in the expedition only in 1824. Between 1825 and 1828, he lived in Paris, Augsburg and Munich, dedicating himself to organizing and publishing his work “Voyage Pittoresque au Brésil ”(Picturesque Trip to Brazil), in a sophisticated lithographed edition by Engelmann, with text in French and German, in 1835. This travel book, aimed at the general public, was attended by 22 lithographers and Victor Aimé Huberna for the preparation of texts.
