Arthur P. Whitesell of Newton, Kansas was killed in action on September 27, 1918 during the Battle of the Argonne Forest. He was a member of Company K, 139th Infantry, 35th Division. In 1919 his photograph was given to the Kansas State Historical Society as part of a project to preserve the records of veterans.
