As migratory animals, sea turtles travel from the tropics to sub-polar regions, transferring energy between marine and terrestrial environments. They´re considered ecosystem engineers, due to its influence on coral reefs, seagrass meadows and sandy bottoms of the ocean floor.
A hawksbill turtle tagged in Brazil, in January 1990 was captured six months later in Africa. The turtle was originally tagged in Atol das Rocas-RN and traveled at least 3.680km to get to Africa, in approximately six months.
