An enormous mythical giant called Asaina SaburoYoshihide is depicted. He was known as a brave samurai in the Kamakura period. In the Edo period, Asaina appeared as a popular character in literature and drama. The image of Asaina, who strides across the sea holding kiseru (Japanese pipe) in his hand, is thought to have imitated the picture of Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
