One of ASEAN’s Big Five, the Asian elephant (Elephas maximus) can grow to up to 11 feet in height and can weigh around 5,000 kilograms. They can usually be found in herds led by the oldest matriarch in dry to wet forests and grassland habitats. Asian elephants feed on grass, tree bark, stems, leaves, and even cultivated crops.
