Amidst the chaos of the ongoing 1892 Homestead Strike, something completely unexpected happened. On the morning of July 23 a man named Alexander Berkman entered Henry Clay Frick's office while the industrialist has having a meeting. Berkman, an anarchist, drew a pistol and shot Frick twice befor being subdued, stabbing Frick several times in the process. While bleeding heavily, Frick was attended to and was back to work shortly, while Berkman was arrested and sentenced to 22 years in prison. Berkman had hoped shooting Frick would start a workers revolution. For the strikers at Homestead, it only served to turn public opinion further against them.
