In the theatrical staging of "Ayán: Symbol of Fire", the author situated the mythical experience within both culture and the individual, from the perspective of the oral expression of Afro-Brazilian culture. Another important aspect was the materiality of the discourse, which involved bodily movement and elements of choreographic composition. It reached the audience through the rhythmic, gestural, vocal, and visual qualities of the performance—thus, it was a sensorial expression brought to life.
