McKeever’s dramatic paintings are inspired by his experience of the extreme landscapes of Russia, Lapland, Greenland and California. He keeps a diary of his sensations during these expeditions which act as a stimulus for his paintings.
Assumptio II, refers to the artists visit to the cathedral of Assumptio in the Kremlin
Russia, having spent six weeks in Eastern Siberia during the winter of 1995.
The atmosphere of the church with its magnificent icons was visually and
emotionally overpowering and it was this feeling that he tried to capture in
this painting.
