The Christian community of Crimea during the reign of the Girays was numerous, and the most famous Orthodox church on the peninsula, the Assumption Monastery, was located near the Khan's Palace. For some time, the residence of the metropolitan was located here, and the local Muslims, like the rulers of the Crimean Khanate, had great respect for this church and its holy places.
