ASTOR COURT
NEW YORK, NEW YORK, BUILT 1915
ARCHITECT: CHARLES PLATT
Astor Court was designed as an investment property for the millionaire Vincent Astor and was one of the first courtyard-style apartment buildings in New York City. Based on the Italian Renaissance palazzo, its form responded to the desire for natural light and ventilation, particularly sought by residents abandoning private houses for apartments. Each residence had three bedrooms as well as two maids’ rooms in a service wing with a separate entrance.
