Mater-wood covered with paper printed from engraved plate. Throne is tri-lobed with face of woman on front, satyr, on back. Pivoting bail and ring are brass. Reverse of mater, limb carries circle of degrees. Zodiac calendar is followed by Gregorian calendar. Months in Latin. Several inscriptions on scales, outer ring. Rete has 28 flame-shaped star points - and is paper on cardboard. Four tympans-paper, alidade-brass. Body, mater, rete, alidade, double rule, bail, ring, and tympans. Labeled in Latin. Inscription reads: "Philipus Danfrieus Siderographus Regius Generalis Lutetiae exarabat Anno Salutis 1584" ; "A Paris Chez Jehan Moreau rue St. Jacques a la Croix Blanche 1622".
