Antiprotons enter from the AD and are captured in a trap inside a superconducting magnet (left).The positron accumulator (right) provides the positrons for producing antihydrogen. The ATHENA experiment first succeeded in producing thousands of slow-moving antihydrogen atoms in August 2002.
