Printed in Germany by Raphael Tuck and Sons as Post Card Series No. 2428, "Atlanta, Ga.," this post card describes the scene as follows:
"Crowning the highest hill, and at the extreme end of Grant Park, is Fort Walker, surrounded by beautiful scenery, grim reminder of the battles around Atlanta on the 21st and 22nd of July, 1864. The Fort, preserved exactly as it was during the Civil War, is a point of interest to visitors to Atlanta.
Fort Walker is named for Major General William HenryTalbot Walker, who was killed in the 1864 Battle of Atlanta. The breastworks at Fort Walker are one of the few remnants of the Confederate defensive lines that protected Atlanta during the Civil War. Colonel L.P. Grant oversaw construction of the entire line that encircled the city 1-1/4 miles from Five Points.
