Atlas of Galicia (Eastern Europe)

Atlas of Galicia from 1775 entitled "Karte der Koenigreiche Galicien und Lodomerien in seine Kreise und Districte eingethailet". A hand-drawn, multi-sheet topographic map of Galicia, bound as an atlas. The map is the first such an accurate cartographic representation of the Lesser Poland territories occupied by the Austrian Empire in 1772 during the first partition of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Scale 1 : 72 000. No title page. It includes an index leaf, 80 map sheets of Galicia, 9 map sheets of Bukovina. The manuscript accompanying the atlas, “Index alphabeticum zur grossen galizischen Landkarte”, is held in the ONI Department of Manuscripts under reference no. 12 347/III.
