This is a map presumed to be published for schools by the Editorial Department of the Office of Education, the present-day Ministry of Education, and it is in an approximate scale of 1:700,000. While mainly following the tradition of the Detailed Map of Korea(大東輿地全圖, 1861) by Kim Jeong-Hui during Joseon Dynasty, some western cartography techniques, such as terrain representation and sub-maps enlarging locations of interest in the blank area of the map, were also introduced. Its production date is unknown, but judging from the description “Great Han (大韓)”and the location of provincial capital Chungju, it is estimated to have been printed between 1897 and 1908 when North Chungcheong Province moved its capital to Cheongju.
