In Teardowns, Joey Fauerso presents new work continuing her investigation of themes of culture, gender, family, and humor as response mechanisims to our socio-political climate. The exhibition features a 50-foot mural inspired by the White House’s Diplomatic Reception Room wallpaper, Views of North America, that she has punctuated with paintings to comment on the destructive and reconstructive natures of humanity. The
large scale artwork is presented along with sculpture, video, and performance-based
works, including the wooden blocks which have served as both prop and installation
elements since Fauerso’s time at the Künstlerhaus Bethanien for the BSC Berlin
Residency Program in 2017. The exhibition also integrates Fauerso’s ongoing interest
in the ways gender is expressed and defined in Western art and the cognitive and creative processes of children observed and lived through her parental
experiences. This is a photo of people observing the artwork titled "Attendance" that is part of the exhibition Teardowns.
