This chair once belonged to Queen Marie of Romania. She eventually gave it to San Francisco socialite and philanthropist, Alma de Bretteville Spreckels. An undated inscription on the seat reads, “Presented to Mr. and Mrs. A.B. Spreckels (Mrs. Alma de Bretteville Spreckels) en reconnaissance for what they have done for others—Marie, Queen of Romania.”
