Full-length, life-size portrait of Marshal Regnault of Saint-Jean-d'Angély in full Second Empire marshal attire, with the Legion of Honor grand cordon (ribbon) and several overseas orders. He is carrying his bicorn hat under his left arm and is holding his marshal's baton in his right hand. To his right, two drums are stacked on top of each other, with a half-folded map of Italy set on top of them. In the background, a Cent-Gardes officer and a Grenadier de la Garde officer hold the bridle of the Marshal's horse.
