Aurelian on his throne

Geraert Peemans1667

The Cathedral of Segovia

The Cathedral of Segovia
Segovia, Spain

This antegate matches the last tapestry in the "Zenobia, Queen of Palmyra" series, as they depict the same scene. This cloth, used to cover the doors, immortalizes Aurelian on his throne surrounded by a border filled with fruit. Wearing a laurel wreath, to his left appears a man carrying his general's banner, also wearing a laurel wreath. In the background, a child appears to be holding the cloth. A detail that suggests the scene could have taken place inside a tent after the defeat of the Queen of Palmyra.
