The Austin Low Loader taxi was first introduced in 1934. It was called the Low Loader, LL for short, as the chassis was redesigned to allow the vehicle to be less tall than previous models. Inside, there is space next to the driver for luggage and four seats, including two folding seats. The landaulet body roof can open and be folded back in good weather. The Second World War devastated taxi production and trade. Petrol supply was rationed and drivers were 'called up' to join the war. Many taxis were requisitioned for the war effort and used as temporary ambulances or to help in fire fighting.
