The Austin Sun was an underground newspaper in Austin, Texas that had a run of several years in the mid to late 1970s. They were on the cutting edge of using local artists and writing about current events- topic of which are still of interest 40 years later. Jim Franklin was a frequent contributor to the newspaper and his imagery usually included an armadillo. Indeed, Jim is arguably the person most responsible for making the armadillo the cultural icon of Texas and saved a Texas beer while doing it.
