Between 1982 and the relaxing of the Apartheid sporting bans in 1990, English, Sri Lankan, Australian and West Indian teams made seven unofficial or ‘rebel’ cricket tours of South Africa. In April 1985 an Australian team was announced that included some players already selected for the forthcoming Ashes tour. Despite a request from the prime minister Bob Hawke to reconsider, the tour went ahead, giving the Australians an opportunity to play against the great South African players of the era, including Graeme Pollock, Barry Richards, Clive Rice and Garth Le-Roux.Featuring the Australian kangaroo and South African springbok gazelle, this shirt was worn by former Test batsman John Dyson. The same uniform was used again for the 1986–87 rebel tour.
