This was the first periodical in the Latin alphabet distributed in Lithuania Proper, printed in 1883-1886 in Ragainė and Tilžė. Its was edited by Jonas Basanavičius, Jonas Šliūpas, Jurgis Mikšas, Martynas Jankus, and Juozas Andziulaitis-Kalnėnas. Auszra declared ethnic liberation and aimed to unite the liberal intelligentsia and shape its ethnic agenda. 95 authors from Lithuania Minor and Lithuania Proper contributed to the paper.
