The Spanish Inquisition Tribunal was an institution created in 1478 by the Catholic Monarchs under direct control of the monarchy. Although the ecclesiastical court had jurisdiction only over baptized Christians in the practice spread to almost all of the subjects of the King of Spain. In the forefront is "the company of the soldiers of the Faith", officers and soldiers who were charged to safeguard public order in the place where they celebrated the Auto de Fe, accompany the accused to reading sentences and to the brazier, and ensure public order and the integrity of the damned.
