Szymanowski was fascinated by Goral music and traditional clothing. He appreciated the incredible power of the highlanders' singing and dancing. While still living in the "Limba" mansion, he began almost ten years of work on the ballet Harnasie. This is a kind of musical show that tells the story of the love between a young highland girl and a highlander - the leader of a band of brigands hiding in the Tatra Mountains. The script of Harnasie is a fairy-tale vision of highland life - the plot is symbolic, the characters have no names: the ballet features the Girl, the Shepherd and the Robber.
