This painting by Stanisław Witkiewicz (1851-1915) is made using oil technique on a support of linen canvas covered with an emulsion primer. The canvas is stretched on a wooden frame. the paint is applied in two layers. The first, lower layer is visible in the form of a band running along the right, left, and bottom sides. It features pale grey tones. The painted layer itself, which almost completely covers the lower layer, is a darker violet-blue. It conveys the late hour. The painted layer was most likely applied with a hog-bristle brush using thick oil paints.
