Entertainment card issued on the ship P&O Orient Liner Stratheden listing a programme of passenger activities from London to Brisbane via Colombo. Design features newspaper print of racing pages with silhouettes of horse, dog outlines and frog and black print reading 'P&O - Orient Lines/RACE CARD'. The card was kept by the donor as souvenir from his family's voyage from London to Australia in 1962. It reflects recreational activities organised by shipping companies during the era. Deckside ' horse races' were a popular entertainment where passengers competed against each other to wind in wooden horses attached to lines of string.

Provenance: Folded cardboard entertainment cards with coloured design on front covers. A. Design features newspaper print of racing pages with stenciled horse and dog outlines and frog in a white circle. Two red strips with black print reading 'P&O - Orient Lines/ACE CARD'. Contains mock up racing fields for six races, rules and championship race. The inner pages contain a daily program of activities from London to Colombo. The back cover has other information relating to music, cinema and religious services. B & C. Feature multi-coloured covers with a mermaid on the ocean and reads 'P&O/ for your entertainment'. The inner pages feature the daily program between Colombo and Brisbane. The donor lived in Tanganika, Tanzania working as a Police Superintendent. In 1961 he returned to the UK on leave and applied to migrate. In 1962 the Fraser family with four children sailed on board the STRATHEDEN from Yilbury Docks, London. They visited Gibralter, Athens, Alexandria, the Suez Canal and Ceylon before arriving at Freemantle and then Adelaide. After living in the Finsbury Hostel for two weeks the family took a holiday home at Glenelg. Mr Fraser worked for Ampol at Murray Bridge and then in the Myer Bargain Basement.
