Azteca Temple Altar. Pre-Columbian cultures believed that death was an important part of the life cycle through which new life was created. They honor their dead with rituals and offerings, and believed that the deceased would return and they would need to offer gifts, flowers, food, incense, dances, and music as a way of gaining their favor.
