One of seven portraits on copper sheets completed by the artist for the wedding of his son Francisco Javier to Gumersinda Goicoechea. Javier Goya was born in 1784 and was the only child to survive of the seven siblings born to the painter and his wife Josefa Bayeu. This work shows a young Francisco Javier aged 17 with a melancholic expression on his face.
