The printed face of Sweets reproduces the artwork of adorable children by Maud Tousey Fangel. In the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, Fangel's illustrations of cherubic faces graced the covers of "Ladies Home Journal" and "Woman's Home Companion," and other periodicals and appeared in advertising for Colgate products, Cream of Wheat, and Squibb's Cod Liver Oil. As the most famous illustrator of children's portraits, Fangel was an obvious choice to paint the faces of the widely popular Dionne quintuplets in the 1930s. Georgene Novelty Inc. manufactured Fangel's Sweets cloth doll.
