BAG

Known as a gate-top, trellis or expanding mouth bag, this type of frame became fashionable during the 1880s. Materials for the bag changed over the decades with the silk, tapestry and velvets of the 1880s being replaced by metal mesh in later decades. Frames were often reused and new bags in fashionable fabrics attached. This example is made of silk woven into a Persian-inspired design.
