Bagh

Bagh is an elaborately embroidered customary cloth-sheet which women of Punjab used as an odhani or shawl on marriage-like special occasions.

As the term bagh, meaning garden, suggests, a bagh has its entire field covered with embroidered motifs, so much so that even a centimeter of base cloth is not left uncovered. This bagh blends two sets of motifs, one known as Mirchi, and other, multiple squares patterned like Mughals’ Charbaghs. Both baghs and phulkaris are sometimes classified on the basis of the motifs or designing patterns used in them. Such baghs which blend two sets of motifs are known as hybrid baghs.
