When Shakir Hassan Al-Said produced this painting in 1960, his transformation from representation to abstraction began. The beginnings of his interest in using the Arabic letter and its use as a communication element in the artwork indicates that he wrote the word "Baghdad" in the work’s center and added to it other letters in an abundant diversity of earthy colors as if he rooted the word (symbol) in the soil of the earth.
