This French weighing scale was used for weighing the gold and silver coins that were legal tender in Europe during the 18th century. Gold reales and silver escudos were the coins in circulation in Spain during the reign of Philip V, and were made using precious metals.
The weighing scale still has its 2 pans and iron beam, and several nesting weights. In addition, there is a table containing detailed information on the weights of the different coins on the lid of the box in which the scale was stored.
