Embroidery was immensely popular around the turn of the century, but this was all about to change: The First and Second World Wars, economic crises, and a completely different concept of fashion caused a sales crisis which was to continue into the post-war period. St. Gallen embroidery experienced a revival thanks to Dior's New Look. The swinging, knee-length skirts, which characterized this style, along with the narrow waist, were superbly embellished with high-quality and colorful embroidery.
