Balmoral Castle, built in 1852 in Scottish Baronial style, is the Scottish country home of the British Royal family. This style of architecture was inspired by Sir Walter Scott's home at Abbotsford and combines Scottish medieval styles with 19th century grandeur. At Balmoral, the square tower and many conical turrets are typical features. The castle is surrounded by 3 acres of formal gardens.
