Album quilts such as this superb example from Baltimore were considered the highest form of American quilting because of the combination of so many intricately designed blocks to form a grand object for presentation. The ladies of the Columbia Avenue Methodist Church in Baltimore made this quilt for the brickmaker Ebenezer Stewart, who donated the brick for their new church.
