Bamberger Psalter, fol.61v-62r (Montage)

Christ enters Jerusalem jubilantly on a donkey, as people lay down palm leaves and cloaks in his
path, on what is now celebrated as Palm Sunday. Peter, whose figure is greatly lengthened in order to fit him into the tight space between the donkey and the frame end, walks behind Jesus into Jerusalem as well. A crowd greets Jesus in front of the Gate of Jerusalem (seen in the far upper right corner
and in the right side of the frame). Compared to the size of Jesus and peter, who nearly take up
the entire length of the miniature on the left-hand side, the people in the crowd are small and
drastically reduced in size.

Christ washes the feet of his disciples at the Last Supper.
Christ is featured in the middle of the miniature, with his right hand and cruciform halo-encircled head following right on the center line of the image. He washes the feet of Peter, who is in the left of image shown conventionally as an older man with greying hair and a beard. The other two younger, unnamed and unidentifiable figures in the scene stand for the other disciples and figures present at the supper. The personnel in the scene are starkly reduced to emphasize Jesus’s humbling act.
