Taichung City, Taiwan

Jeng Hung-you was best known as a calligrapher, and few of his paintings are extant today. By incorporating both new and ancient styles, the painting showcases the power of Jeng's cursive script and his distinctive method of applying gold leaf. The brushwork is truly awe-inspiring. Inscription: "The Confucian gentleman lives long (bamboo and chrysanthemums both symbolize long life). Painted at Kuangxi's Yanxicao Hall (a cottage) in Kuangxi, in emulation of Yuanhu Laoyu (Zhang Xiong, leader of the Yuanhu school of painting). Zanhou."
