Banner of the Hammersmith branch of the Women's Social & Political Union

Suffragette banner carried by the Hammersmith branch of the Women's Social and Political Union. The banner is reversible and has a rectangular central section with vertical side panels machine-stitched. It is formed from purple, green & cream satinette with cream cotton damask and purple velvet. The central panel has 3 hammers and horseshoes painted on material over card with 'Hammersmith' and the suffragette motto 'Deeds not words'. The side panels are embroidered with irises on one side and appliqued in velvet on the reverse, with hanging tassels.
