Barite twin (heavy spar) [BaSO4]

UNESCO World Heritage Zollverein

UNESCO World Heritage Zollverein
Essen, Germany

In the Ruhr area, remarkably large crystals of various minerals have appeared on rock fissures in connection with coal mining. One of the most beautiful finds is certainly this extraordinary barite crystal twin from the Westerholt mine (Gelsenkirchen). Its anthropomorphic form is immortalized in the logo for STONE TECHNO – a music project started at the RUHR MUSEUM in 2020.
