The Barn Owl is easily recognized by its heart-shaped facial disc. As in all owls, this disc covers the ear holes. Shaped like a parabolic mirror, it bundles the sound waves. Like most other owls, the Barn Owl is nocturnal. The giant eyes that are pointed forward enable spatial vision even under poor light conditions. Since the eyes are fixed in their sockets, the owls compensate by being able to turn their head about 270 degrees.
