The Barracks of the Cannon Carriage Drivers are rebuilt by Mahmud II (1809-1839), a year after the Firuzağa Fire of 1823. Compared to the barracks (as seen in Melling’s panorama) commissioned by Selim III (1789-1808), this complex is pulled back form the shoreline and Nusretiye Mosque (1826) is erected between the new barracks and the shore. The façades of the new two-storey masonry barracks is lined with rectangular windows.
