Marzenna J. Krol, originally from Poland, came to the U.S. in 1981. When she was living in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and working for the Mennonites, everyone had a quilting frame at home. Quilting was a part of the daily routine for people there. The Mennonites’ patience, understanding, and love for quilting allowed her to understand what quilting is about.
"This pattern, my first original appliquéd design, was inspired by dried flower arrangements I used to make. I had great fun working on this quilt – the pattern developed as the work proceeded. I designed a lot of small flowers and leaves to be appliquéd, but used only about a third of them. Making the top was like arranging a dried flower bouquet – choosing the right color, size, and flower and leaf shapes to achieve this perfect combination."
